Blog #6 Room
I thought overall the book wasn't that bad there was some times when it was slow and times when i was hooked and couldn't stop reading. I would say it met my expectations it wasn't better or worse it just met my expectations.I would recommend it to anybody that likes to read and likes a good story. One thing I really disliked about the writing at the beginning of the book was how hard it was to understand what Jack was talking about in Room. I think that if the book would have ended after they got out or maybe a little after I would have liked the book a lot more. My final thoughts are that the book was good but it could have ended faster.

The story is set in the room and in Ma's parents house and in the present time. I thought it was kind of believable other then the fact of why Nick would just build a fortified shed to keep a women in. He has to have electricity and water run to the shed and pay for it and he also put 1 foot of sound proofing on the walls and roof. He also buys them food and there is a heater. So it seems like a lot of work for him to do just to keep somebody in In the book it also talked about there being tall bushes all the way around the shed so nobody could see it. In the movie version it was just a shed in the back of Nicks yard and was in the open.

The plot has been pretty good so far the only plot hole I have really noticed is the why would Nick drop jack when he was running from the guy with the dog he probably could have got away with it because Jack led the police to the house to save Ma. The book did start off a little slow because nothing really happened they were just living in the shed. It got really interesting when Nick shut off the power and Ma started planning the escape and I couldn't stop reading. Then they both escaped and it sort of slowed down for again because they just sort of live a normal life now and it wasn't very interesting for me. There is two crisis in the story the first is Jack and Ma trying to get out of the shed and when Jack is trying to get used to life outside of room. It is also sort of Ma trying to readjust to the world again.

So far the character development has been pretty interesting. I think all the characters are pretty believable. One of my favorite characters is probably Nick because you don't really know very much about he only comes at night. Jack is also very interesting because of the way he sees everything from his view where he has never been out of the room. Its also interesting because Ma never lets old Nick see Jack and when jack wakes up in the middle of the night and wakes up Nick then Ma freaks out and tells him not to touch Jack. The story gets told by the point of view of jack which is kind of confusing because he has only seen things inside the shed.

The initial reaction to the book was pretty bad because it was really hard to understand what the kid was talking about. Once I started to think in the mind set of a child it made a bit more sense. Now that I understand what is happening in the book I am starting to like it a lot more I have so many questions on whats happening. So far I know there is Jack, Ma, and Old Nick. They haven't really described Old Nick yet they just said he comes at night to give them stuff. Jack hasn't been described to much other than he is five years old. Ma hasn't been described that much either other then she was the one kidnapped my Nick when she was 19 and gave birth to Jack. The characters are really realistic. I think that Ma is trying to signal people with the light at night. I also want to know why Ma hides Jack at night does Nick not know about him or something.

Hello my name is Mathew and I am not a big fan of reading, I don't really struggle with reading it's just there are so many better things I could be doing. When I do read I like reading adventure books and I mostly just read if I have to read a book for class.I have read the road in Mr. Harrisons class last year and Animal Farm, Hamlet, and The Kite Runner. The Kite Runner wasn't that bad but I really hated Hamlet because of the old English. I think the reading will be a little hard because the narrative is written from a child's perspective. The challenge i will have is being focused on the book while reading. I choose the book because it has a movie and I had a chance to read it before and I didn't so I thought I would read it this time.
